Comments: Frank and I (with some help from Mike of Bad Idea Theatre) worked on the car quite a bit this weekend. We completed the cutting/lengthening/welding of the chassis. The overall length is now 8'6", and the wheelbase is 6'8". Length will grow by a few inches as we add the exterior skirt, etc. Welding went very well, and the base chassis is strong. We are working hard to have the major construction done before end of June. I also did some aluminum welding for Mike, so I know I can do it. Mike (who is an electrical consultant) has volunteered to help Frank and I with theelectrical "steer-by-wire" system. We purchased a cordless drill today to use as the drive motor for the steering.

Want to volunteer for duty at the post office or ask them a question about postcards and or postage? I would think that a 3 oclock outpost mailbox could be interesting.

Comments: Phil and I met last evening to dscuss mutant vehicle decoration theme of "neglected work of the lovers" Faxed some sketches to Chris Curtis and talked with Frank and Chris about the concept. Was thinking the wandering herd could be represented with cow-shaped lawn christmas lights if the harnessed wire cow sculptures prove too difficult to engineer/build.
At the work date on the 22nd we set up the dome in Dave and Halcyon's back yard then purchased and crafted a blue cloth interior. Dave & Halcyon are taking the lead on the Tanabata kiosk dome.
Also at the work date we discussed the studio temple roof. Greg, Dave and Cheesehead all had great ideas/input.
A west coast work date for the last weekend in June has been planned for the decoration of our mutant vehicle plus any shipping related logistics.
Also we are beginning to purchase materials for our camp so we have to begin collecting camp dues. The budget isnt final. We need to keep camp dues under $100 per person and I would personally prefer that they be no more than $75 per person (excluding the kiddies o course) Perhaps we could collect $50 a head now and let people know that a nominal additional amount will be collected at a later date.
Let me know your thoughts.

Comments: Chris from California - email forwarding works (for me at least). Finishing up my semester next week - then free to turn up the heat on mutant vehicle work.

Testing new weblog email forwarding settings. Posted images/sketches of early concepts for Tanabata Dome/Tree/Mythology kiosk as well as detail notes and concept of sculpture garden of wandering herd and unfinished halfwoven baskets.
1st work date of May 22nd : Dome design and decoration
Bolts of heavy blue material, bamboo or approximate material, dayglo paint, ultra-reflective sticker-sheet, lights (tiny white christmas) ELwire, screen material, Tanabata decorations, Asian paper lanterns (star shaped), Star-projection "sphere" and pillar stand, Kiosk station prototyping materials and rough draft of copy for story and Tanabata practice instructions. Carpet scraps might be helpful but we've got plenty more to tackle first.
Phil and myself are tracking down paper lanterns, tanabata decorations and blue material
Halcyon is fashioning ELwire constellations and designing the dome interior graphics
David is constructing the star-sphere w/pillar stand and procuring some bamboo
I'll pick up a bundle of 8 or 10 five foot pieces of bamboo for $6 that might also prove usefull for prototyping.
Also worth noting, I noticed that the porn industry found our planning weblog here on barkley.org and has begun posting ads on it sooo... camp leaders sound off and let me know if you're signed up on and posting through blogger.com so we can keep the porn ads off our planning site.

Comments: Hey Barkley,
I talked to Halcyon and Dave last night. We are going to meet at the Flying J at the 80/94 junction in Gary Indiana on Wednesday at 7PM. They are going to look over the dome outline. We can meet up downtown around 6PM and I'll drive.
Can you sketch and post those figure drawings for them to see? That would be great.
I talked to Linda and she is going to have the soundtrack vo completed in the next week.
Call me today when you get a minute.
Thanks.
Phil
